The Dream Institute is a cultural and educational center whose mission is to restore dreams as a resource that informs and inspires our collective and personal lives.

Most cultures throughout history have called upon dreams for information and guidance. They are more relevant than ever at this time of upheaval and transition. Our mission is to restore dreams, as an ancient wisdom source, to a place of respect in contemporary society.

We offer workshops, seminars, salons, film series, professional training, art exhibits, retreats, and dream-based performances. We are also the West Coast center for Culture Dreaming. Programs and events are open to the public; continuing education seminars are for professionals in the healing arts. We do not advocate any single philosophical, psychological, spiritual, or religious viewpoint.

“I have found the Institute an extraordinarily supportive environment for creative work and research about dreams, dreaming, and the uses of dreams in other cultures as well as our own. It is a tribute to you and the colleagues who participate with you in creating and sustaining the Institute that such fine work can be done. The programs you support are excellent, the audiences who attend your programs are sophisticated and warm, and the environment a very pleasant one for the presenter. I look forward to future work with you and The Dream Institute.” ~ Charles Fisher, M.D.

The Dream Institute seems to be coming of age, as new faces appear at every event and those who’ve sampled things commit to ongoing programs. Attention to the interior life no longer seems limited to the few, but an endeavor whose value is more widely appreciated. After all, dreams are a natural spiritual experience available to anyone. We welcome your participation and invite you to consider ways of being involved. Feel free to call or email Jennifer Privateer, our Managing Director, if you’d like more information or wish to sign up for something.

Each season, we feature both ongoing and new programs, and we welcome your recommendations of topics or individuals for them.

There are areas in which help is frequently needed. In exchange for volunteering time—from once a week to once a month—you get to attend a program of your choice. Areas are:

—copying materials for seminars

—setting up and taking down chairs for events

—doing academic research at UC library

—obtaining books from a public library

—sending our publicity to local papers

—helping select and hang art exhibits

Tax-deductible contributions at any level—from $10 to $100 to $1000—are most welcome.

Help cover our operating expenses, especially the high rent for our lovely landmarked building. Or you may wish to contribute to our newly established Endowment Fund, designed to keep The Dream Institute going in the future. These donations are also tax-deductible but are placed in a reserve account, not used for monthly expenses but set aside for the future. You can make a year-end donation; make a pledge to donate; or you can consider including The Dream Institute in your will. (Donations can be made anonymously.)

Thank you for your support, of all kinds, and the support of your presence at our activities.
