Point Reyes Public Advocacy

The mission of Point Reyes Public Advocacy (PRPA) is to advocate for the termination of special use permits (leases) for commercial dairy and cattle ranches in Point Reyes National Seashore (PRNS). Presently, Ranches occupy 30% of this National Park; about 85% of the arable land.

To accomplish this mission, PRPA will take the following steps:

  • Recruit, organize, and train volunteers, bay area youth in particular
  • Staff tables with volunteers in PRNS free speech zones every sunny weekend
  • Provide material, brochures, and articles
  • Organize advocacy at Crissy Field (San Francisco), REI stores, and other sympathetic commercial establishments
  • PRPA aims to reach 500,000 people in three years.

The goal of PRPA is to see the Tule Elk flourish in their native habitat, without having to compete with cattle for scarce resources, to see the entirety of PRNS being devoted to native species flora and fauna, and creating natural public access parkland that lives up to the purpose of the National Parks. Lands that are dedicated to remaining in their natural state and for the sustenance of wildlife are an important part, possibly the most important part, of mitigating the effects of climate change. Hence, the goal and purpose of PRPA supports the well-being of the entire planet and all those who live on it.
